Seville is a musical city, where singing and dancing are pleasures that its citizens enjoy both in the flamenco tablaos as in the clubs with techno music. Perhaps that’s the reason that makes this city a city full of good places to dance and clubs. So that you can go on a night out in Seville with plenty of fun and partying, here are some of the most interesting places.

Among the most attractive places to go dancing and drinking is Sala Boss. Its decoration has an avant-garde aesthetic that reflects the spirit of the place. It’s a club that’s won its prestige after 12 uninterrupted years of activity, bringing a special shine to the nightlife in Seville with its theme parties and DJs all over its 800 sq metres. Famous Spanish and international bands and performers have played on its stage.

Two years ago, Boss Light‘s programme became a great alternative for young and parents of Seville. Thousands of people have already enjoyed its theme parties, designed especially for young people between the ages of 14 and 17, where there’s no alcohol or cigarettes, transforming the place into a great alternative for safe partying. If you’re going to teenage parties, we recommend that you book a table in advance so the entrance costs will be cheaper and you’ll have a place ensured all night. It’s located on calle Betis 67, next to the Guadalquivir river.

Grupo Kudéta, specialized in the production of events related to leisure and fun, is the responsible for the club Sidharta, a cozy place with long sofas, low tables and dim lighting. Here, fun begins early with a coffee or a drink and, as time goes by, the atmosphere gets hotter and the music does its job. It’s located in a university and business area so it’s always busy. It’s located on José Recuerda Rubio s/n, in the district of La Buhaira.

Few clubs can claim that they’ve just turned 25 years old shaping the trends in the city but Bestiario is one of the few that can, an entertaining place with avant-garde style of long tradition in Seville’s nightlife. They’ve imposed new music and new bands, have remodeled their club on various occasions without affecting its initial spirit and they’ve emphasized on theme parties with their own style. In its two clubs, calle Zaragoza 33 and Viapol Center, they have interesting weekly programmes that you can check on their website: http://web.bestiario.net/www/

Catedral is a club where you can enjoy hip hop, funky and black music among others. Its decoration is minimalist, close to post-industrial, which widens the spaces and makes it very pleasant to be in. It’s located on Cuesta del Rosario 12.

If you’re thinking of staying in Seville accommodation remember that this is an evergreen city where night meets day, so take these details so that you know where to go.

Some people have a difficult relationship with the spring and the summer. While for some there is nothing better than the beach, the sand, the sea and the heat, for others the warm seasons of the year are annoying if not unbearable. Winter regulates our temperature and it becomes much easier just to bundle up a bit, put thicker clothes on and maybe a scarf and warm shoes, not a problem to get out and walk the streets. For this reason, many people prefer to travel during the winter, so you can better enjoy walks along the street, museums, restaurants with terraces, squares and roads. Similarly, winter travel is much cheaper as the influx of tourists is reduced, public spaces are far less busy, and you can enjoy the tour of the site being visited without agglomerations.

Unfortunately, not everyone can take their vacations in winter, and usually we have to travel and relax in the hottest months of the year. In Spain, for example, many leave their jobs during the months of July and August, and sometimes the cities and neighborhoods become somewhat deserted. Many businesses close for almost months on end, the regular movement of the city is paralyzed. Will the same thing happen the this year with the crisis affecting the country? The cuts being made by the government of Rajoy are really creepy and affecting all Spanish citizens. Is it a good time to go on holiday?

It is a difficult question to answer. In Spain, people are accustomed to a high level of leisure, which is why this country is so attractive to other European cultures, especially those in northern countries like Norway, Germany, Sweden, among many others. And of course, the level of stress that exists in countries such as these is very strong in addition to living in a climate that is not attractive to spend time away from home. Winters are much more raw and significantly affect mood. If something can not be doubted, is that Spain is the European country that enjoys the most beautiful skies for many months of the year. Sunlight is really beautiful in Spain. Perhaps in spite of the crisis, people will come for vacation, and what can be better than cheap traveling within Spain itself, for example to Seville in May.

The heat is already on in Seville during this month, so bring light clothing, a good sun blocker, lots of water and the best attitude to enjoy this beautiful city that continues to offer a friendly and welcoming atmosphere to the visitors. If you do not have much money, Sevilla is a destination full of possibilities and economic possibilities you can enjoy with your family this spring.

Do not let the heat stop you from exploring the beautiful Andalucian capital. Seville is wonderful and is waiting for you with open arms.

A visit to the Andalucian city of Seville means visiting a city full of life, where as well as excellent weather, better food and its beautiful streets, it offers us a unique cultural offer that we cannot find anywhere else in Spain. And when we mean unique we’re not exaggerating because in the city we can find many monuments and buildings from the time of Al-Andalus, when the Arabs ruled the country, and also its incredible gothic cathedral, the biggest in the world and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.

One of the most famous neighbourhoods of Seville is La Macarena. Contrary to all belief, the neighbourhood doesn’t take its name from the Virgin of La Macarena, since her real name is Virgin of La Esperanza, but instead from two different etymologies: ‘Macarea’ from Arabic or ‘Macarius’ from Latin. This neighbourhood has various buildings and monuments of great historical value. One of the most famous if not the most famous is the Arch of La Macarena. This is one of the most characteristic architectonic symbols of the area, being one of the gates to the city that was in the city’s walls, and it’s one of the few that still remain. Right next to it is the Basilica of la Macarena, built between 1941 and 1949, where we can find the famous Virgin of La Esperanza Macarena, which dates from the 17th century. The church is neo-baroque and inside we can find various altarpieces and altars of great value and beauty.

Further inside the neighbourhood we can find Calle Feria, a street where every Thursday there’s a very popular market. The market sellers brighten up the day with their typical Andalucian flair and nature and invite the traveller to buy in their stall. Mostly, they sell food but you can also buy various clothes stalls. If we get hungry at this time, we can go to the modest market bar, where all of its food is incredibly fresh since it comes from the market itself, but we have to be quick because, at lunch time, between 1pm and 3pm, the bar fills up quickly with the sellers. Also, the market is next to the church of Omnium Sanctorum, of a Gothic-Moorish style, built in the 13th century. It was looted and set on fire in 1936 but today it’s reconstructed and it contains objects of great historical and religious value. It was in this very same street where one of the first brotherhoods of Seville was founded, the brotherhood of Jesús Nazareno, which brings us to the processions of Semana Santa, Holy Week, an event that nobody who visits Seville on those dates (Easter week) should miss, and when the Virgin of La Esperanza Macarena goes out on the streets of the neighbourhood, filling them with her beauty and splendor, an unforgettable experience.

Enjoy one of the most emblematic neighbourhoods of the city when you rent Seville accommodation The neighbourhood of La Macarena has the best of Seville: monuments, history, cultyre, excellent food and the smell of orange blossom in spring that will stay in your memory forever.

Reality shows offer too much frivolity and stupidity. It’s really shocking to discover how many reality TV programs are created around the world. America of course is the mother of reality TV , in second position perhaps we have the United Kingdom, and the phenomenon has spread throughout much of the world, with much acceptance in Europe and Latin America. Spain is not far behind in the race and Who wants to marry my son?, gives crystal clear evidence of the terrible Spanish television content.

In Who wants to marry my son? there are five singles looking to get married. All professionals: a chemist, a model, an entrepreneur, a lawyer and a computer geek. They are escorted by their mothers in search of eternal love. The suitors, all very attractive and very outspoken which have to deal with the mothers of these “babies” to safely reach the altar. What better source of entertainment, than a classic case of the bride who is not convinced by the taste of the overprotective mother, who only wants the best for her spoiled child, where “sex appeal” miniskirts and high heels are all over the place. The question is whether this really happens in everyday life, if men are really adults who rely on their mothers to choose their partner, or if mothers are still trolling through the personal lives of their children when it comes to love. You know the answer…

Reality shows are cases, anecdotes and situations retouched by the insistence of commercial network television. It is not in the least the idea to portray reality but rather, it is parody taken to the extreme. Participants in reality, usually are stereotypes that are being extracted from the same box with little or no originality and without much to say, giving preference to dumb beauty and stupid attitude in front of the camera. These people receive large amounts of money in the effort to keep the thread of the action going without having any knowledge apparently of how to show themselves before the camera, and that keeps them in the spotlight,

But ladies and gentlemen, what in reality is certain is that nothing is spontaneous. Each scene is crafted and designed by a team of production so that you waste your time stuck to the TV screen following a bad story . And of course, as time passes, you will be bombed or bombarded by advertising of all kinds. Reality shows are the worst thing you can find on television today, just watch a little of Who wants to marry my son? to understand that television, like the world is hungry for money.

How many times have we been proposed sex without a condom? Remembering them all would be impossible and the list would be big. Having sexual relations with or without a condom is one of the most uncomfortable debates since they brought condoms out commercially and their use became more and more frequent, until it became an inseparable companion of any love relation.

Using condoms today is good, both for our health and the other people’s health. We can contract various STIs if we don’t use it, among them HIV, herpes, syphilis, etc. There are many excuses that some people have given us for not using a condom: “I don’t feel anything”, “it’s too tight”, “it doesn’t excite me”, “it’s not sexy”, etc. It doesn’t matter what they say on the first or second date, always use condoms if you’re having casual relations with various people. If you establish a more solid and serious relationship, perhaps then think about leaving the condoms aside and using other methods.

Latex condoms however can cause irritations and itching, among other symptoms, when someone is allergic to this material. There are various options available if you’re allergic to latex and you need protection, among which we can find the polyurethane condoms. These condoms are 100% anti-allergic, much thinner but, however, much more resistant. Not only will you be protected and without allergies but you will also feel more. Polyurethane condoms are compatible with all lubricant substances.

In the same way, you can still buy condoms that are made from lamb tripes. These are made with a part of the intestine of this animal which finds itself at the beginning of the large intestine. Once you’ve extracted this part, it’s dried with hot air. Unlike latex and polyurethane condoms, this condom is packaged with a water lubricant that keeps it moist. Be aware that for the use of this condom you need additional lubricant so that it doesn’t break and so that it makes your sexual experience more pleasurable. The sensitivity that these condoms offers is also very high.

However, be careful, condoms made from lamb’s tripes only prevent pregnancy, and are NOT effective to protect one from STIs, such as HIV, herpes or hepatitis. Only use these condoms as a contraceptive and not as an STI prevention. These condoms aren’t very well known but you can find them on the internet and specialized pharmacies. Always talk with your partner about the best options and the use of contraception that suits both of you, and come to an agreement that makes both of you comfortable so you can give and receive more pleasure.

Seville is a breathtaking city in southern Spain and the capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia. As a people, Andalusians have a reputation in Spain and around the world for living well, eating well, and for their desire to have fun. And who can blame them? Life in Seville is wonderful because it has such great weather (with the exception of the summer months when it may be best to wait until the sun has set before venturing outside) and excellent cuisine. You too can join in the festivities that take place in the city throughout the year.

One popular Sevillian festival is the Feria de Abril (April Fair). For this fair, booths are placed in the Los Remedios neighborhood of Seville that offer a variety of flamenco shows as well as food and drink for everyone, although this is sometimes limited to members of each group. The food and drink are one of the main reasons to attend. You will be able to try just about every type of Andalusian and Spanish delicacy at the festival at any time of day. The most popular drinks are the fine wines and chamomile tea. Throughout the week of the fair, one can see the women of Seville in traditional dress, with long skirts and combs, as well as men in typical dress, who are often moving about the city by horse and cart. In addition, there are also several bullfights at the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza during the fair. The streets are also filled with lights to commemorate the celebration. If the Semana Santa (Easter Week) is a week of penance, then the April Fair is a week of celebration.

These are the most typical festivals of Seville, although in Andalusia they celebrate more, for example, the El Rocio Pilgrimage, for which pilgrims travel to visit the Virgin in the small town of El Rocío, the Columbian Festival of Huelva, the Jerez Horse Fair, the August Festival in Malaga, the Virgin of the Sea Festival in Almeria, the Corpus Christi Festival in Granada, or the San Lucas Festival in Jaen.Andalusiais one gigantic party!

Film had a radical impact when it appeared for the first time circa 1895. It was then that the invention of the Lumière brothers was presented in public, projecting only the exit of the workers in a factory in Lyon, the arrival of a train and a ship in a port, as well as the fall of a wall. These first documentary sketches were the beginning of the film revolution that, up until today, is still opening windows in our perception of reality and how we understand the phenomenon of visual arts in general.

These first short documentaries made by the Lumière brothers were the a credible portrait of reality, only this time they were moving. For many years previously, photography had already complied with this function; from the family portraits or those of famous people to the documentation of important events, even in annotating medical information and the early police investigations, photography took it all up and had the gift of showing us a fixed moment in time and space. Filmography would go that extra step, giving us also the chance to generate fiction and stories, adventures and new ways of interpreting life through film.

Thanks to literature, which would be the narrative source of many represented stories, film began to develop and became a show for the masses, the amusement for the middle and working classes of the 1920s and 1930s. Of course, the avant-gardes of back then, who had already explored the field of photography with the manipulation of effects and editing, would show us the first steps towards a film that wasn’t necessary linear. The surrealist and expressionist German experimentation thus gave us the secret of the future of film: edition as a tool of narrative character. The moving image was the text and the blank paper. Editing carried out the role of the pencil and the typewriter, generating thus surprising stories and adventures. Our nostalgia for silent film has carried on and was brought to life once again by this project of huge magnitude, which is the film ‘The Artist’.

This film by Michel Hazanavicius is without doubt a stylish piece of work in contemporary film, not only for revaluing this nostalgia for vintage or od things but also because it contrasts with the excess of visual effects and technologies by using very simple creative processes that are also effective at the same time. These processes moved the public 80 years ago and have meant that ‘The Artist’ has received numerous awards, among which the Golden Globe, the Goya and the Oscars for Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Soundtrack. If you haven’t seen this film, find out about it by clicking on this page: http://weinsteinco.com/sites/the-artist/

Since the birth of film as such and since the first screening, ‘The arrival of a train to the city’, ‘premiered’ at the Salon Indien at the Grand Café du Boulevard des Capucines in Paris on the 28th of February 1895, the images reflected on the screen are thought of as reality itself. Film was born as the culmination of an expressive process inherent to the artistic man, from the remote times of the caves, new art, the seventh one, participates in all the previous arts (from architecture to music, from painting to sculpture, from dance to poetry).

It’s made up by the image, the workd, the shape, movement and musical notes. But, at the same time, the invention is a new way of autonomous expression both serving fiction (literary) and the realist documentary. Following this idea, it being film as the best instrument to project and spread any given cosmovision, different regimes (for instance the capitalist one we’re inserted in) has served and uses film to spread ideas of both propaganda and civic ideology. Due to its great seductive and spectator-attraction power, film is postulating itself as the most efficient tool to exercise any type of proselytizing.

This which requires a more detailed study than this short space could possibly offer, is what the government members of Mozambique did once they achieved the highly-awaited independence from Portugal. The screen, the film narration or the mere documentary at the service of any given idea (whether it’s socialist utopia, the most atrocious fascism or all the different excuses of triumphant capitalism) were used by the successive governments of this southern African country after the victory of the Mozambican Liberation Centre in the Independence War. Film, therefore, becomes a tool of both learning a new social order and submission to the prevailing canons.

And so, the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo in Seville (CAAC), from the 23rd of February until the 3rd of June, will exhibit film and documentaries of this African country under the title ‘Catarina Simão. Fuera de Campo. Archive of Mozambican Film’, which is the hard-worked investigation and cataloging of the aforementioned Portuguese academic Catarina Simão (1972). The project, which has already been exhibited in different European cities due to the high levels of interest in it, is held at the home of the old Fábrica de la Cartuja, located on the other side of the river Guadalquivir, in the location that used to be occupied by the Universal Exhibition of 1992. Here’s the link with more details http://www.juntadeandalucia.es/cultura/caac/programa/simao12/frame.htm and I can tell you, both to the travellers and the locals, that the CAAC, due to its interesting permanent collection (its location is already a work of art) organizes other exhibitions and events, so you can access the different ones simultaneously.

We recommend that the traveller who is staying in the city on the shores of the Guadalquivir gets lost amongst the land of the old ‘fábrica cartujana’ and doesn’t forget to book apartments in Seville especially if they have windows looking over a blossoming orange tree, a unique view.

Behind the fantasy of aliens are many of our fears to the unknown, the change, and certainly the horror to the imminent demise of the human race. The fantasy of other worlds has plagued the literature and the big screen. Since the fifties, with the strengthening of the Cold War, the emergence of hundreds of class B movies, in which space invaders come to conquer our world, became very popular, as well as Comics, magazines and television series with the theme. Just think of the 60′s series “Invaders” or “Twilight Zone”.

But what is the fear to the “alien” that comes from “another world”? In the above cases, a political and ideological issue was involved. Let’s look at it from this perspective; the United States was the birthplace of the popular alien phenomenon, which was a way to subliminally portray the communist, the one against the inherent “democracy” in the so boring “American Dream”. And with it, the suburb of houses that are copied one after the other, the white fence, two cars and the dog, which suddenly are invaded by a foreign, unknown agent. Hand over that fear by the “alien” in present times, another invader that can be any minority in Western culture, from the immigrants, women, gay activists or revolutionaries. Nothing better than to portray our refusal to change and new ways of understanding reality, creating giant ships and strange creatures to fight and conquer in the great universal drama of cinema. Collective catharsis, overtaken fears and provisional peace until the next movie.

“Alien” is the new film by Nacho Vigalondo, the director who was nominated for an Oscar in 2005 with his short film “7:35 in the morning”, the same who directed “Timecrimes” in 2007. “Alien” stars Carlos Areces, Michelle Jenner and Julian Villagran; this film tells the strange, romantic and crazy events that happen after an alleged alien invasion to planet Earth. From one day to another, huge spaceships, similar to the one in the popular series “V-Alien Invasion”, appeared in the sky. The main characters, Julio and Julia, wake up after a night of drinking in the same apartment and together, they discover that the streets are empty; there is a warning of these spaceships in the sky. The tension of the film is then given in the dialogues between the characters who in their bewilderment, discovered the audience and themselves in humorous situations that continue to make us reflect on the principles that connect us and make us more human against unknown. You can follow Nacho Vigalondo in the blog that makes for the newspaper El Pais here: http://www.nachovigalondo.com/

Although this production, which is now being represented in the century-old Teatro Lope de Vega in the Andalucian capital, it was premiered in Sala El Matadero in Madrid and has already been through different regional stages. It’s a great chance to discover the work of an author that’s practically unknown for the Spanish crowd, the Swiss Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921-1990). From a small narrative text (a story, more specifically) they’ve versioned this play, ‘The breakdown’ (‘La Avería, in Spanish), directed by one of the most versatile actresses and directors of the Spanish cultural scene, Blanca Portillo.

Friedrich Dürrenmatt was a versatile author that flirted with different styles at the same time. Totally imbued with the ethical and moral problems that took place during the Second World War, he cultivated in equal parts novels and film scripts. Along these lines we can insert his prolix theatre plays, although ‘The breakdown’, in purity, isn’t one of them but a short story instead, and from that text they’ve adapted the theatre play that at the end of March will be performed on stage at the Teatro Lope de Vega. Death, illness, tiredness, cruelty, selfishness and the subtle frontiers that separate good from evil (in the same way as ‘The Cloven Viscount’ by Italo Calvino), were favourite subjects for Dürrenmatt. In ‘The Breakdown’ there’s of course a bit of sadism, well along the lines of the surrealist proposals that flooded the literary scene from the 1940s. Just as I said at the beginning, the Spanish public might not even know about the author (and if they do it’s because of all the success that this particular play is having which has become the author’s presentation letter in this country) but, in his native country and during his life, he was flooded with awards of all sorts, such as the prestigious Schiller Award.

So what is ‘The Brekdown’ about? Alfredo Traps, protagonist of the play, after suffering a mishap in his bachelor apartment, accepts the invitation of a cultured old man with good manners to his rundown mansion in the middle of nowhere, where he lives with his housekeeper. However, these circumstances, apparently banal, make the textile representative that is Traps face a cruel game where other invites to the dinner come to play. The play tells us about moral limits and the possibilities of the human being, at the same time that it shakes us by questioning on the frontiers of personality. This production, of which here’s the link where you can find more information and even buy tickets online http://www.teatrolopedevega.org/index.php/events/view/280, comes to us thanks to Entrecajas, and we can see names such as Emma Suárez, Daniel Grao, Fernando Soto or Asier Extxendia in the cast. Also, make sure you don’t miss the video of the ‘making of’ of this play in which the actors talk about their experiences on the play.
