The Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art presents an exhibition that brings together a series of works on photography and architecture by the German artist Candida Höfer (1944), which was made between 1968 and 2008 in a show designed in collaboration with the prestigious Berlin architectural firm “Kuehn Malvezzi. Höfer has collaborated with this studio since presenting a project on the sculpture the Burghers of Calais at the Documenta 11 in Kassel (2001.)

The title of the exhibition – “Projects: Done” – reflects the artist’s belief that the presentation of an exhibit is an integral part of the artwork. It is also an ironic comment about the notion, introduced by the exhibition itself-that there is a difference between the “completed projects” and the daily activities of the artist.

Höfer´s projects can only be considered “concluded” when they have been shown and such exposure is always a project in itself, since it is determined by deadlines, and answers a consistent purpose, in this case, to show images of spaces in a specific space.

Following the method begun by her teachers (Dusseldorf school), her pictures show an almost ethnographic interest in the multiplicity of forms of presentation of contemporary culture, and interact in very particular scenarios where society develops.

Throughout her career the artist has increasingly concentrated her production on different types of interior semi-public or public spaces such as libraries, palaces, museums, offices, universities, cafes, churches, sports facilities or zoos.

“Projects: Done” brings together works of German artist as “Liverpool”, a selection of images taken on the streets, Pinball” (Flipper), a work conceived as a publishing project, “Türken in Deutschland” (Turks in Germany) which is presented as a photographic slide projection, “On Kawara”, dealing with Japanese conceptual artist On Kawara, and a collection of images of different parks in Zoologischer Garten.

The exhibition will remain open until October 3 and is a great chance to feast your eyes while renting apartments in Seville.

Sex is fun and we all know it. It is one of the most enjoyable pleasures of the human body and thanks to him; we can lower our stress levels and feel better. Despite all these benefits, however, sex can end up infecting you with various diseases which range from seriously uncomfortable to fatal. Therefore, caution is not enough, as a single instance of bad judgement is enough to become infected with HIV, the virus which causes AIDS.

It is clear that the risk has always existed but today we can say we have “weapons” to combat and prevent these diseases. It is in our power to use protection or not because we know the risks. Anyway, if we apply common sense and condoms, we have no reason to complain.

Although it sounds hard to believe, one of the big impediments to safer sex is a lack of communication. It’s often considered embarrassing to be about to make love and start to talk about sexually transmitted diseases but your health is an important reason to overcome this “shame.” You don’t need to start a lengthy conversation on the subject and kill the mood completely, but you do need to have the risks clear, talk about the subject and whether you’ve been tested, and agree to use a condom. In fact, once you get past this conversation, you can turn back to lighter subjects like what type of condom that you like, tastes, textures and so on. The more you find intimacy and communicate, the more you will enjoy sex. Protection is both a duty and a right of each.

In addition, you can enjoy sex surrounded by the atmosphere of one of the best cities to enjoy the summer: Seville. Great neighbourhoods, people and monuments, not to mention a swinging nightlife. Everything is worth exploring. And who says you can not meet someone in a tapas bar and enjoy the best sex you’ve ever had. Come and check it, rent one of the apartments in Seville and go with the flow. You’re sure to want seconds…

Feminism is without a doubt one of the most misunderstood social terms, and today, many in our society take a dim view of it. What happened to feminism, and why are people so hesitant to “come out” as feminists?

Feminism is, as we all know, a social movement that gained momentum in the 70s. In the struggle for gender equality millions of women demonstrated in European and American capitals. They questioned the social roles that had been foisted upon them for generations. However, over the years, feminism has taken on a new face, contradicting, growing and, above all, evolving.

What today we understand as “feminism” has little to do with the radical movement of the 60s and 70s, which reclaimed the power of the “feminine nature” as a means to justify their desire for equality between men and women. And it has little to do with “hatred” of men, although the movement has often been misunderstood or caused controversy. Indeed, therein lies the crisis of contemporary feminism. Many women are afraid to identify as feminists for fear of being accused of being simplistic ideologues. However, this is a big mistake: although we have made many major changes and advances regarding equality between the genders, we still have a long road ahead.

Though perhaps not directly related with broader themes of social equality and economic autonomy, gender inequality is particularly evident in the art world. Just look at the list of top selling artists to understand that women have not been given the same importance as their male counterparts. In this line of thought, the CAAC (Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo), opened the exhibition “Nosotras” this past May, and it will be on display until September 26, 2010. It collects the work of some of the most important artists of the past 40 years. Among them, the recently deceased Louise Bourgeois, Martha Rosler, Nan Goldin, Ana Mendieta and Sofi Sidén.

“We” represents the first time that a Spanish art museum dedicates an exhibition that integrates the feminist movement and and art in an attempt to change this sad trend and stop the systematic exclusion of women from the artistic panorama. Rent apartments in Seville, and supports this first step towards gender equality in the Spanish cultural scene.

At first glance, professional cycling is one of the most boring sports there is for spectators. The action consists of three weeks straight of biking, kilometre after kilometre, day after day. But it’s not as monotonous as it sounds, since it is a sport in which teamwork, technological innovation and strategy can have dramatic and surprising effects on the outcome.

The Tour of Spain celebrates its 75th birthday in 2010. The first editions had fewer stages (14 instead of 21) but the stages often exceeded 250 km — Just imagine cycling 25 kilometres an hour 10 hours a day for two weeks straight !…. Not exactly a relaxing ride through the park.

This edition of the tour begins in Seville. There will be 21 stages measuring an average of 170 km each. The stages, although shorter than in previous editions, have dramatic and challenging climbs. There will be sprint finishes and an explosive end. If you rent apartments in Seville on August 28th, you will be able to see the exciting start to the Tour of Spain, which will pass through the whole city. After this nocturnal trial finishes, the race will start in earnest, full of sweat and steep battles till the finish line in Madrid on September 19th.

In olden days, cyclists were disqualified from the for cheating, such as climbing the difficult routes with their bikes tied to the back of a car, or throwing nails along the path to hinder the progress of other teams. Doping has also been an issue since the beginning of cycling, and the earliest professional cyclists took cocaine, strychnine and alcohol to withstand the demands of the race.

This year, for example, many say that the exclusion of the Radio Shack Team was due to persistent rumours of doping on the team. But don’t think that cycling is a less honest sport than others, at bottom; we ask a lot more of professional cyclists than other athletes. We want them to get faster and faster, even though we are a completely unable to do the same. We get excited about cyclists because the sport shows us the perfect fusion of man and machine, both the determination and the tranquillity necessary to face the biggest, most difficult challenges.

English theorist Marshall McLuhan became a star in the academic world when he published his book “Understanding Media” which discusses the profound impact of the media on our society and the individual. One of his most telling contributions was his interest in the media and how it affects the individual psychologically and socially, and how it becomes become an extension of our senses.

With the conquest of the Internet and the advent of communication devices like the iPhone, Blackberry, or IPAD, the sweeping doctrine of hyper connectivity has taken charge of our way of life. These devices have significantly revolutionized how we communicate and how our relationships start up and are maintained. The changes don’t end there. These devices have also transformed our way of dealing with information and our access to it, and changed the way we work, and even helped us to become independent of the places where we work! Social interactions both intimate and labour-related, are only a click away from us, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Scientists say the juggling we do every day trying to answer thousands of e-mails, phone calls and information that reaches us through the various devices that connect to the WWW, change not only our thinking, but also how we feel and react. Our ability to concentrate is being sabotaged by the primitive impulse to react immediately to opportunities and threats, which today might mean tweets, e-mails, and messages on Facebook or Skype.

The explosion of media consumption has increased exponentially: now we consume up to three times more information than our grandparents and parents consumed in 1960. As a human race, suddenly we are confronted with thousands of new impulses for which we are not developmentally ready. We have reached a level of addiction to technology so strong we may even suffer from withdrawal symptoms when we don’t have access to it: boredom, anxiety and sadness are all common.

Therefore, it is more important than ever to find a balance. Rent apartments in Seville and stroll through the streets of this beautiful city. Leave your computer and your gadgets at home!

Victoria, Roxanne, Whitney Katherine and report the latest sports news, international, weather and economic … without clothes. They are some of the nine girls who slowly strip out of their clothes directly in front of the camera for 25 minute episodes which air 6 times per week on the Canadian website called Naked News. Will the male journalists get naked next, please?

The idea of this information portal is to provide ongoing and objective news reports, which hold nothing back and convey the truth, indeed, the naked truth to the world. For 11 years, thousands of net-savvy individuals can enjoy beautiful female bodies at the same time as they “get informed” about the most important events of today. Perhaps, but we doubt the efficacy of this idea: when you have a naked woman, though she may speak in a serious tone, be it about volcanic clouds, winning athletes, heavy rains, it’s quite likely that you will be fascinated though not necessarily by the news…

Efficiency or entertainment?

On the upside, this type of news programme can entice people who might not otherwise be inclined to pay much attention to the news to at least be aware of what is happening in the world while they enjoy the show. There are many people out there who are bored in front of the TV news and dream of removing the presenter’s suit, or imagine her having sex or in the bathroom..

However, it must be said, the presentations are not the most scintillating in-depth journalism, and most of the presenters are models first and newscasters second, except Victoria, who studied journalism and was the first to introduce the program. For serious news, like the attacks of September 11 for example, they keep their clothes on… But given the nonsense full of lies that we get from the “official” newspaper, one more news option which takes a naked view of reality might be just the ticket

They have developed the format to include male newscasters and other languages, because not only fans of females have a right to get the news with a dose of excitement. Really, everyone deserves to enjoy their naked body, in the real world as well as the virtual world. So don’t hesitate to try the nude beaches on the Spanish coast and rent apartments in Seville.

Judging by the CAAC website, where you will find little information about the events of Nocturama 2010, the first rule of Nocturama a is not to mention Nocturama. A refreshing alternative to megafestivals, Nocturama is a series of concerts organized by the Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art to liven up the summer nights, with very interesting musical offerings at an even more interesting price too. Here the quality of the music has much more weight than the ability of the headliners to sell tickets for their based on the strength of their names alone. Previous years have also included cinema and special events.

Organizers take advantage of weekdays, when it may be easier to attract international groups that are touring major cities in Spain. For example, last year you could see such groups as Au Revoir Simon, Deerhoof and The Cranes for just five euros. Groups that have graced big stages around the world or who have been number one on all of “best of the year lists”, at a price that could not be better! The concerts are on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from July 1 to August 26, 2010. As in previous editions, artists have been carefully choosen.

The confirmed dates include Baby Dee, Friska Viljor, Lali Puna, Emily Jane White, Lloyd Cole, Exsonvaldes, Dente, Wildbirds & Peacedrums, Alondra Bentley and Hola A Todo El Mundo. Listen, for example to the music of Emily Jane White or Wildbirds & Peacedrums on myspace or lastfm, and you will surely be surprised by the echoes of such figures as Catpower or Bjork. This year’s program focuses primarily on folk and indie music and its more innovative variations: sadcore, freakfolk and folktronica. You’ll see some memorable concerts by artists who are already driving all the critics wild, soon enough they will also delight you. Rent apartments in Seville for an incredible opportunity to see some of the most promising groups of today.

Who doesn’t love the fact that even after all those years Angus Young still loves to wear a school uniform!

If you don’t know much about AC/DC here are some quick facts: At present, AC/DC have sold over 200 million albums worldwide. Their album Back in Black is the 2nd highest-selling album in history after Thriller by Michael Jackson. They are amongst the greatest bands and artists of all times and in 2003 they were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The history of the band goes back to 3 brothers in Scotland, who moved to Australia with their family, Malcolm, Angus and George Young. George, who was the first to live out his passion for music by learning to play the guitar. He joined the Easybeats which later became one of the most successful bands in Australia in the 1960′s.

Malcom and Angus formed the band which later became AC/DC. The name originates from a logo they saw on their sister’s sewing machine and stands for alternating current/direct current which according to them best describes their music and their feelings for their music.

And even after so many years of rocking the stages worldwide they are not tired yet and on the 26 of June you have the chance to see them perform in Seville at the Estadio Olimpico. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and the price is 65€. Get ready to bang your head to the tunes of some true legends of Hard Rock!

It is sometimes easy to think that contemporary art is an academic phenomenon, understood and accessible by very few people. However, there are contemporary artists, whose art encompass many disciplines and uses all the formal possibilities of the exhibition (as understood in an academic context): installations, video art, photography and printing, but also manage to maintain a political or anthropological commitment which allows them to have a great power over a wide range of viewers.

The American artist Carrie Mae Weems falls into this category. Although she is known primarily as a photographer, during her career she has also used different materials and means of expression-media installation, performance and video. Her personal experiences, history, and folk and popular culture form the basis of her work, giving it a great emotional impact.

The Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art will host an exhibition of her work from May 20 until September 19, 2010, which brings together examples of twenty of her series, over one hundred photographs of large and small format digital prints on fabric and wallpaper, audiovisual installations and videos, to give visitors a chance to familiarize themselves with her work.

Weems started taking pictures when she was active in the labour movement and decided to devote herself to the artistic side of photography after seeing the book “The Black Photography Annual.” That she has ceased to be active in the labour movement does not mean that she has left politics behind- in fact, a critical re-examination of racism, gender, relationships identity, and especially women’s identity, informs all of her artistic interventions.

Many photos feature lines of ironic or sarcastic text, to animate the viewer to digest the conflicts presented in her work both consciously and visually. The exhibit will be the first for the artist in Spain, do not miss it! Rent apartments in Seville, to reflect on what you’ve seen.

Everywhere in Europe, teachers ring the alarm bell. More and more female university students are turning towards prostitution to pay for their studies. I’m sure you’ll agree with me that stripping and giving lapdances in shady bars is something that’s usually associated with desperate and less-educated woman. But these are girls that just started their degree in English literature, are studying for their masters in international politics or completing their doctorate in medicine. They are smart, bright young woman. Call girls.

Of course, there is a system of grants or long-term loans but as all of you who have applied for a scholarship before will agree, they are hard to get and the criteria is very strict. Meanwhile tuition fees are going through the roof. In Britain you pay around £3000, in Spain up to €4000, in the Netherlands about €2000. If you add living expenses, public transport, books etc., you will not be surprised that many students are having trouble to make ends meet. So they see prostitution as a fast way to make good money. After all, why go work in McDonalds or H&M for €10 an hour if you can make up to €1000 a night as a luxurious call girl?

It reminds us of Belle Du Jour, the author of the bestseller ‘Diary of a London Call Girl’. For years her identity was one of the best kept secrets in England, but last year a journalist from the Sunday Times discovered that her real name is Brooke Magnanti, and that she worked as a prostitute while writing her PhD thesis. Right now she is a researcher at Bristol University, and she made a small fortune out of her life story.

Most girls stick to their plan and step out of the business as soon as they have their degree. They don’t talk to anybody about it, and say it would ruin their lives if their families or people at the university ever found out. But is there really no other option? It is now up to the European Union to take action and make sure all students have to same right to education, independent of which country they live in. In Germany and Belgium for example, university is nearly for free and the scholarship system is well structured.

Thank god for Erasmus! The Universidad de Sevilla is a gorgeous building near the city centre, surrounded by great bars and student cafés where they serve the most delicious tapas. Apply for a sunny and unforgettable Erasmus experience in Spain, rent the best apartments in Seville and enjoy the Mediterranean way of life.
