The work of artist Argentine artist Marta Minujín exudes a cutting-edge momentum which rarely manages to manifest itself so dramatically. The exhibition “MINUCODEs” which opened on September 30, the CAAC in Sevilla celebrates some of her most groundbreaking works made in the 60s. In these works through she explored the behaviour of social groups in the social situations.

Nearly as complex as this work is the artistic thinking that prompted this Minujín to push the envelope for nearly four decades with her creative experiments, rooted in the happenings and performance of the sixties. She began with happenings and subversive performances in the street, and different groups got involved. Later, however, she began to employ video and film as a means of artistic expression, as seen in her work “MINUCODEs” which is on display at the CAAC until February 6, 2011.

This work is based on four cocktail parties at different locations in New York, to which she invited 80 people from different cultural and professional worlds, such as politics, business, art and fashion, to expose them to sophisticated, but intense sensory experiences and document their reactions on video recordings.

In this way they may celebrate the legacy of one of the most important Latin American artists and also offer a contemporary reading of it. Thanks to handheld footage and other records documenting the project, the viewer can experience an incredible sensory experience. Just rent apartments in Seville , and prepare for this great experiment.

Elvis Sculptures, from Seville to Heaven

Posted by seville | seville | Friday 26 November 2010 10:25 am

Renting apartments in Seville is a way to open yourself to the abundance of life. At first glance it seems difficult to conceive of it as a glittering city, but one senses from the first moment that the city exudes the most discerning taste and aesthetic delicacy, whose beauty and harmony are so extreme that their own brilliance makes one question reality at every turn. Seville seems to be one of those places where nothing seems to have been placed at random, where every little stone fulfills the edicts of a higher artistic order requiring full obedience. The light of its beauty seems to blur, sometimes allowing one to confuse the world and its surroundings as if blinded by its luminescent cast.  From its forms emerges a kind of transparency that gives us access to other planes of existence, tremendous and numinous in their abysmal depths.

Thus, in Seville the Apollonian is the road to the Dionysian shadows. Well below its strict aesthetic discipline-golden, polychromatic and precisely ordered daemonic-sleep, the city bides its time before fatally attracting us with its siren song that shall carry us to the other side. This demonic aspect, posited by Lorca, as duende, sprite and devil, springs from black shadows of the Pharaoh’s trunk, inciting highs that speak of a land of paradoxes and the depths of the ineffable. This unspeakable tremor, the edge of mystery-in touch with our ancestral pagan past, freezes, burns and leaves us overwhelmed.

Rarely are these feelings more deeply felt and lacerating, as epidermal prickles in the skin, more ecstatic and hurtful than in the presence of the figures of the imagery of Seville. Their impact is such that when you find them you will not find it too difficult to understand the iconoclastic fever put forth.

The truth is that the issue of worship and disturbing images relate these to both the divine and the human, and pepper western culture from the myth of Pygmalion to chilling Spanish folk songs such as the Maredeuta, through to the magical and mysterious end of Shakespeare’s Winter’s Tale.

The rich Seville school of sculptors has not only given us such prominent figures in the history of art like Martinez Montañez, Juan de Mesa, Alonso Cano and Maria Luisa Roldán, it has created a tradition of family sagas, with  generations dedicated to the same vocation.

Jesus Mendez Lastrucci keeps this tradition alive by incorporating new gods in the gallery of contemporary images of pagan deities, which from an anthropological point of view, are trangressive reexaminations of the virgins and the saints. By 2017, he will have completed a Calvary of twelve statues depicting the life of Elvis from his childhood to his death. Elvis was no stranger to the vicissitudes of martyrdom and decay, and these sculptures will be shown to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of his death at Graceland museum. Lastrucci speaks not in vain when he declares “Elvis is to Memphis as the Great Power is to Seville.” Perhaps no one could understand this better than a sculptor from Seville.

Lies disguised as science

Posted by seville | seville | Tuesday 23 November 2010 11:21 am

In the past, religion was once the only “truth,” however, science now occupies the place of truth. While church pews grow more and more empty, the scientific congregation finds itself with more and more parishioners. Before, being a scientist was synonymous with being a heretic. Today it means to be obedient and faithful to the canons set by existing paradigms. Scientific debate was once hot, and actual debate, but now it seems that each and every scientific conclusion passes muster, despite the fact that many scientific inferences are based on corollaries that may lead to serious cumulative errors. Science today is a religion in which, like any religion, people may or may not have faith. The manipulative power of religion has been used as a tool of indoctrination and social conditioning throughout our history. With science we could not expect anything different.

lies disguised science
Science sells many more products than religion ever did. Its power allows it to cross borders more quickly and effectively. Secularization cost a lot of time and work, now, in one feel swoop; we have traded one faith for another.  The “divine word” is preached from prestigious scientific journals rather than pulpits. Science’s agents, suspicious doctors and pharmaceutical companies, strive for the utmost in efficiency, speed and lack of clarity of their message. The Virgin and the Devils do not appear to us, but there are new enemies, pandemics and epidemics to be conquered, like the infidels of old. That same spring of miracles now brings out new essential technology thanks to our remptors, the scientists.

Without going far into the past, what was swine flu all about? What about the avian Pandemics? What do they want us to believe about climate change? Where are all the mad cows? Did the world end in 2000? Have we all burned to a crisp through a hole in the ozone layer? What is happening with research in the field of cancer or AIDS? In all this there is something fishy. For all these panics, hypes and budgets

sSome learned quickly that man is a creature prone to making myths. Now is time to leave the myths behind, whether theya re religious or scientific in nature. While it is easy to deafen the contrary voices, it is important to speak up. Though it often seems that the loudest voice becomes the most powerful. Not  even renting apartments in Seville will you escape the ideological poison but  traveling will set you free.?

Posted by seville | seville | Wednesday 17 November 2010 11:00 am

Paul Gilbert, one of the world’s most famous guitarists, was born in ’66 in Illinois and began playing guitar at age 5. Some time later, when he was 15, he appeared in Guitar Player magazine next to the famous Yngwie Malmsteen.  He decided the instrument was his true calling in life and decided to dedicate his future to music. He moved to Los Angeles to study at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), and thus ended up becoming a teacher.

Gilbert is known in the music world as one of the most famous metal guitarists out there His influences include Eddie Van Halen, Glenn Tipton and Yngwie Malmsteen, and even many that have nothing to do with that style, like The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Ramones.

The musician rose to fame as one of the fastest guitarists in the world and is considered to be in the top 10 in a survey conducted by Guitar One magazine. He is recognized for not only having skills with the electric guitar but also the acoustic version of the instrument. His great style and ability led him not only to become famous but to teach at the institute where he studied and also in the GIT of Japan.

Though he has been touring for years, there are still many places he has not had the opportunity to share his talents.  Don’t miss him in Seville when he plays on Dec. 17 in Room Q.

If you love music this is an ideal opportunity to attend an event where you can see one of the greatest living guitarists in the world. You may want to rent apartments in Seville and not lose the opportunity.

Paging Dr. Strangelove

Posted by seville | seville | Tuesday 9 November 2010 11:12 am

On the hunt for new ways to mix it up in the bedroom people can go long ways and sometimes you might just find yourself in a funny, embarrassing, weird or odd situation. Creativity and curiosity in all honor here a couple of incidences that didn’t go as planned:

odd sex stories

- Husband wanted to surprise his wife with breakfast preparing a special “sausage sandwich” for her, putting his penis in a loaf of bread. Too bad the dog was faster, snatching a big bite. Ouch!

- A Swedish taxi driver was jailed in October 1994 for leaving the meter running while he had sex with a woman customer and billing her for it.

- After desperately trying to get pregnant a couple sought out a fertility expert. Turns out they should have paid better attention in sex education because the only thing they did was dryhumping. Sure we want this couple to have kids?!

- Karl Watkins appeared at Court in February 1993 on five counts of outraging public decency: in particular, making love to pavements.

- A man wanted to surprise his girlfriend and stuck a flower up his penis. Bad move: The hairy fibers on the stem tore his urethra to shreds and he needed to have surgery.

- Similar story about a woman who wanted to execute her power over her boyfriend by taking away his keys and hiding it in her very special place. The situation ended in the emergency room and upon arrival doctor and patient had trouble finding the keys.

- Lastly a rather sad one: A couple in South-Africa had sex on train tracks. They must have been so caught up in their passionate love-making that they didn’t hear a train approaching and both were killed. If you are looking for some new and interesting ways to spice up your sex life more power to you! But be advised and think about the consequences. How about we start off with something a little less self-mutilating? Rent apartments in Seville to engage in a little role play. There is definitely something kinky about  Flamenco.

The end of underwear?

Posted by seville | seville | Tuesday 2 November 2010 10:17 am

Some people prefer the more classic models, a simple thong or black lace panties, while others opt for cotton prints with funny cartoons. Whatever your personal taste, underwear is regarded as an essential element in the ritual of seduction and erotic play and somehow, like shoes,  seems to summarize someone’s style from the inside out:  sporty, elegant, funny, audacious …

going commando
But mankind is very varied and there are those who think differently, finding that panties, thongs or boxers are superfluous garments and nothing essential. When they tell others they do not use lingerie it arouses wonder and curiosity, but we believe that the time has come for this gesture to be seen as something more normal. The practice of going commando has been popularized by many celebrities, such as Britney Spears or Paris Hilton.

This obviously does not mean that was not already a widespread practice among ordinary mortals. Also, don’t think that it is a female only custom, more and more guys are leaving their uncomfortable Mickey Mouse boxers and briefs with children’s cartoons in the drawer…

Just think “I’m not wearing any panties” ….  Is a short sentence, but when uttered by a friend or colleague, it blows a veritable tornado of fantasy and chills of excitement through your body. So the inevitable question: Has this practice become popular because it is actually more comfortable not wearing underwear, or simply because it is a potential “weapon of seduction” or a form of exhibitionism?

I must say that in some cases it is even healthier. Imagine a hot summer day, with temperatures around 35 degrees … I would say it is better to wear only a light dress for the beach, without those sexy, but uncomfortable, 100% sweaty synthetic fabric panties. As supporters of freedom only thing I can say is: Enjoy your body, with or without panties. Travel, rent apartments in Seville and discover the secrets of enchantment.
